Welcome to the New and Improved Laura Schroeder Photography Website!

Many of you who know me, know I almost always have a camera slung over my shoulder. Storytelling through the lens has been part of my life since I was a kid. Years ago, when our son was about two, I had a business plan written and ready to go—but life, as it often does, had other plans.

The life of a mother, a military wife, and a professional in landscape architecture kept my plate full. Though the timing wasn’t quite right for photography at a professional level, my days were full, and so was my heart. Landscape architecture proved to be a perfect fit—each project a blend of studying the natural environment, weaving in the built world, and observing how people move through and engage with those spaces. It fulfilled a need for creativity and I loved seeing the lines on a drawing become reality. I wouldn’t change that chapter for anything.

Fast forward to today, and life has finally opened a door for me to pursue my other creative passion: storytelling through photography. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it is this—it’s never too late to follow your dreams and see what beauty might grow from them.

My love for photographing people, places, and shared moments led to the creation of my original website and the guiding idea I call “Face and Place.” It’s more than a tagline—it’s a philosophy. It’s about blending both of my passions into one meaningful platform: celebrating both the people we cherish and the spaces that shape our lives.

Over the cold winter months, I felt it was time to breathe new life into that space. With the help of the talented team at PhotoBiz, I’ve refreshed my online presence to reflect the heart of where my work is today—and where it’s headed next.

This update is more than just a visual makeover—it’s a full evolution of how I share stories and connect with you.

Photography captures a moment. Writing gives it depth. I’ve created a space to bring these two together in new ways. On the blog, you’ll find:

• Stories of nonprofits doing incredible work and the communities they serve. First up is the amazing work that the Task Force Dagger Foundation does during the week of Dagger Dive.
• Spotlights on newly opened landscape architecture projects—designed spaces where people live, gather, and thrive.
• Behind-the-scenes peeks into how I work and what inspires each shoot.

This is where I’ll share the heart behind the images—something I’ve long wanted to do.

You’ll now find new sessions featuring nonprofit organizations, their incredible work with military families, and life’s many milestones—from expecting parents to graduating seniors, engagements, and everything in between. You’ll even meet a few beloved pets—horses, dogs, and cats who are very much part of their families. These galleries reflect the full range of the people and places I have the honor of photographing.

Why the Change?

Because every photo has a story—and now, I finally have the space to tell those stories more fully. This new site lets me go beyond just sharing images. It invites you into the moments, introduces the people behind the smiles, and celebrates the places and causes that shape our lives and inspire my work.
